GIZ and Catalyst for Women Entrepreneurship (CWE) jointly held a consultation workshop on November 2, 2018 at Taj Vivanta, Bangalore for the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) project. The workshop brought together stakeholders from different areas of expertise in the entrepreneurship ecosystem for women in the state of Karnataka, such as government agencies, corporates, entrepreneurs, incubators, fund managers, mentors, etc., who are playing an essential role in shaping the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the state.

The workshop served to inform the WEE project to promote women entrepreneurship in India. Key takeaways from the discussions included:

  • Successful interventions required to promote women entrepreneurship in India, including the need to ease the access for women entrepreneurs to bigger markets through partnerships with private sector and women business enterprises in other geographies.
  • Building brands is an important enabler for access to markets.
  • Women’s mindset needs to be changed to encourage self-confidence to become entrepreneurs.
  • Role models and stories of successful women entrepreneurs with different nuances should be promoted.

The outcomes of the workshop will act as an enabler in the implementation phase of the project in 2019.
